Position Title: Special Education Teacher – Educational and Professional Support Services 

Definition of Position: The Special Education Teacher will help Horizons' to expand its Educational and Professional Support Services program and respond to the changing needs of students. The Special Education Teacher will help to support individuals with developmental disabilities in their transition education and is responsible for implementing each student’s support plan. 

In this position you will:

  • Write and implement lesson plans.
  • Plan community based learning activities
  • Evaluate and document progress and accomplishments of students
  • Coordinate team meetings
  • Act as a case manager for the students
  • Meet with Director of Educational & Professional Support Services as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Teaching Certificate (Special Education preferred)
  • Prefer a minimum of two year’s experience working with people with special needs.
  • Must possess a valid Connecticut driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background & license check performed by Horizons
